Chris Tudor Pest Control, Stroud

If wasps or hornets are causing problems around your home, garden or business in Stroud, Stonehouse, Nailsworth, Dursley, Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Cirencester, South Cerney, Slimbridge, Frampton-on-Severn, Berkeley, Tetbury, Fairford, Lechlade, Kemble, Cricklade, Bibury, Burford, Carterton, Bourton-on-the-Water, Moreton-in-Marsh, Chalford, Bussage, Bisley, Painswick, Birdlip, Cranham, Thornbury or the surrounding villages, we’re here to help.

We provide fast, professional wasp nest treatments for domestic and commercial customers, with hornet control available where required.

Wasp Nest Treatments

Wasps are one of the most common – and most disruptive – summer pests in Gloucestershire. As soon as the weather warms up, we’re busy treating nests in lofts, roof spaces, soffits, sheds, air bricks, garden walls and shrubs across Stroud and nearby areas such as Stonehouse, Leonard Stanley, Slimbridge and Frampton-on-Severn.

For many people, wasps are a persistent nuisance around doors, windows, patios and play areas. For others, particularly those with allergies, a sting can be genuinely dangerous. Because of this, we focus the majority of our work on wasp nest identification, treatment and safe removal where necessary.

We use professional equipment and products to reach awkward nests on eaves, under roof tiles and behind fascia boards in properties throughout Dursley, Berkeley, South Cerney, Cirencester, Gloucester, Cheltenham and beyond. In most cases, activity around the nest will drop away rapidly after treatment, giving you back the use of your garden or outdoor space.

Hornet Nest Treatments

Hornets are larger than common wasps and can look intimidating, but they are usually less aggressive if left undisturbed. We do still treat hornet nests where they pose a risk – for example, if they are close to doors, children’s play areas or busy walkways.

Our hornet control service follows the same careful approach we use for wasps, using appropriate protective equipment and treatments to ensure the nest is dealt with safely. We carry out hornet work across the same wide area we serve for wasp control, including Stroud, Nailsworth, Tetbury, Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucester, Cheltenham and many surrounding villages.

What to Do if You Find a Wasp or Hornet Nest

Discovering a nest in or around your property can be worrying, particularly if you have children, pets or anyone with a known allergy to stings. You might notice a steady stream of wasps flying to and from a particular point – for example:

  • gaps in roof tiles or eaves
  • air bricks or vents
  • holes in the ground, flower borders or lawns
  • behind cladding, fascia boards or outdoor units

The area where you see the most consistent activity is usually where the nest is hidden. Wasp nests can start off golf-ball sized in spring, then expand to 30cm or more and hold thousands of wasps by late summer. Hornet nests are often larger still.

We strongly advise against poking, blocking or spraying the nest yourself. Disturbing it can make wasps highly defensive and greatly increase the chance of being stung. Instead, contact Chris Tudor Pest Control and we’ll arrange a prompt visit anywhere in Stroud, Stonehouse, Chalford, Bussage, Bisley, Painswick, Birdlip, Cranham, Dursley, Charfield, Wotton-under-Edge, Thornbury, Berkeley, Slimbridge, Frampton-on-Severn, Gloucester, Upton St. Leonards, Cheltenham, Cirencester, South Cerney, Kemble, Cricklade, Fairford, Lechlade, Tetbury, Malmesbury, Bibury, Burford, Carterton, Bourton-on-the-Water, Moreton-in-Marsh and the surrounding areas.

Where appropriate, we can also offer a follow-up treatment guarantee if the first treatment does not fully resolve the issue, with details and costs explained clearly before we begin.

Recognising Wasp Activity

You don’t always see the nest itself, but you will usually notice:

  • wasps flying repeatedly to and from the same spot
  • increased wasp numbers around windows, doors or outdoor seating
  • wasps emerging from holes in brickwork, rooflines or the ground

Because nests are often hidden deep in lofts, attic eaves, wall voids or air bricks, the safest option is to let a professional locate and treat them. We are experienced in finding and dealing with nests in all kinds of buildings, from townhouses in Gloucester and Cheltenham to cottages around Nailsworth, Tetbury and Cirencester, and rural properties near Berkeley, Slimbridge, Frampton-on-Severn and beyond.

If You Get Stung

Wasp and hornet stings are painful and can be dangerous for people with allergies. If you or someone else is stung, follow current NHS guidance on how to treat insect stings and seek urgent medical attention if you notice signs of a severe reaction, such as difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or feeling faint.

Wasp Biology – Why Nests Grow So Quickly

Most of the stinging insects we’re called out to deal with in Gloucestershire are wasps. In spring, a single queen starts building a small nest, laying eggs into delicate hexagonal cells. These hatch into larvae, which are fed by worker wasps over several weeks before developing into adults.

As the season progresses, the nest grows rapidly. By late summer, a mature wasp nest in a loft in Stroud, an outbuilding in Dursley or the eaves of a house in Cirencester can hold several thousand wasps. This is why activity seems to increase dramatically as the year goes on, and why tackling nests early can be a wise decision.

Adult worker wasps are usually 10–20mm long with distinctive yellow and black markings and a narrow “waist”. They become particularly persistent around food and drink outdoors, especially in popular visitor spots and gardens across places like Bourton-on-the-Water, Fairford, Lechlade and other Cotswold villages.
